Monday night, July 25, at 10 pm EST Turner Classic Movies will be airing the William Wellman masterpiece The Ox-Bow Incident (1943) starring Henry Fonda, Dana Andrews, and others including Anthony Quinn, Harry Morgan and Jane Darwell.
You really owe yourself these 76 minutes. I know, I know, a lot of people hate Westerns but this one transcends the genre. Shoot, this is one of those all-time classics which even transcends the dreaded old movie label used by your friends and family just after they sneer at your movie suggestion. You’ve probably seen it, so force it on them.
Don’t be mad at me Henry Fonda fans, but the Search’s collectible image for The Ox-Bow Incident features Dana Andrews today. Here he is on a paper premium photo issued by Motion Picture Magazine in 1946:
- The Stop Button closes it’s look at The Ox-Bow Incident (1943, William Wellman) by remarking that they can’t believe they forgot how remarkable it was. I had the same feeling the last time I watched!
- Despite what I say about forgetting it’s a Western, Riding the High Country appropriately looks at The Ox-Bow Incident as Western. I didn’t say so earlier, but if you are a Western fan then Ox-Bow is an incredible contribution to the genre!
- Finally ClassicBecky at the Classic Film and TV Cafe posted The 5 Death Scenes That Made Me Cry just earlier this month. Obviously, The Ox-Bow Incident is one of the five. Enjoy!
