Happy 119th to the widemouthed clown Joe E. Brown! Tough finding posts on Brown, he doesn’t seem very popular among classic movie bloggers today though TCM seems to love him. He’s an acquired taste for sure, but I think I picked it up during TCM’s last Joe E. Brown marathon so my DVR will be lit up most of the day Thursday.
Turner Classic Movies airs 10 movies featuring Joe E. Brown on Thursday, July 28. Here’s how they line up:
All times EST: 6:30 am On With the Show (1929); 8:15 am Top Speed (1930); 9:30 am Going Wild (1931); 10:45 am Local Boy Makes Good (1931); 12:00 pm Sit Tight (1931); 1:30 pm Six Day Bike Rider (1934); 2:35 pm A Very Honorable Guy (1934); 4:00 pm Polo Joe (1936); 5:15 pm Sons O’Guns (1936); 6:45 pm When’s Your Birthday (1937).
Today’s collectible is a vintage Press Photo featuring Joe E. Brown in Going Wild, which airs at 9:30 am EST Thursday.
- Jonas at All Talking! All Singing! All Dancing! puts a good deal of the focus on Top Speed in Cut Musical Numbers in 1930.
- Bright Lights isn’t featured during TCM’s Joe E. Brown birthday bash, but it is featured over on Art, Movies, Wood and whatnot
- Eleven Men and a Girl isn’t showing Thursday either, but I covered this one myself earlier this year on Immortal Ephemera
