Clara Bow Found! for a 106th Birthday Celebration … But Not on TV!

Jul 28 2011

Thanks so much to @ClaraBowArchive on Twitter for mentioning that Friday marks the 106th anniversary of Clara Bow’s birth. The sad thing is that the It Girl doesn’t show up anywhere on TV Friday to celebrate. No TCM, not even a Fox Movie Channel airing of my favorite, Call Her Savage (1932). The Classic Movie Search will do its best to fill this void.

PS: We gain revenge on TCM for their Clara Bow oversight by de-indexing them from the Classic Movie Search. No, actually I did this the other night and the change has had the desired effect. I found some very meaty results when searching Clara Bow tonight. Now I just have to find an easy way to nuke everybody’s archive pages to cut back on duplicate results.

Today’s collectible is a 1935 BAT Cinema Celebrities Tobacco Card featuring Clara Bow in color:

inside ClassicMovieSearch.com:

  • @ClaraBowArchive isn’t just a Twitter account, it’s a photo packed Tumblr site dedicated to Clara Bow and just added to the ClassicMovieSearch this evening.
  • The Clara Bow Page is an oldie but goodie. I’ve been visiting this one so long that I still have some VHS tapes of Bow movies I bought from them!
  • Clara Bow by John E. Petty and Grey Smith is on the Classic Images website and I imagine appeared in the magazine itself at one time.
  • KC at Classic Movies posted a video of Clara Bow singing from YouTube awhile back. The audio was choppy for me, hopefully better for you, but Clara’s worth watching even on mute.
  • Clara Bow: Death of the It Girl is on Classic Movie Gab
  • More inof about Bow’s later years can be found on the Rex Bell page at B-Westerns.com.
  • It was early days for A Mythical Monkey’s site when Clara Bow was named Best Supporting Actress of 1927-28
  • And it was even further back, five years ago, when Greenbriar Picture Shows published a Two Part tribute to Clara Bow: Part 1 and Part 2

The online world of Classic Movies is simply found with ClassicMovieSearch.com. Our custom search narrows Google’s focus to only Classic Film sites and blogs making the cream rise ever so much more easily to the top. Try it out:
