Saturday's post: Linda Darnell
TCM has a great run of Carole Lombard movies airing all day Sunday when the Summer Under the Stars tribute turns to 24 hours of Lombard.
Lots of rare early stuff in the morning before the big titles take over in the late afternoon and evening. Nice to see screwball essential My Man Godfrey get the prime 8 pm slot and To Be or Not To Be before that is, well, it's the funniest Nazi movie I've ever seen--watch that one and remember, it was made in 1942!
The day is just packed with all-time classics and little seen gems, this is what Summer Under the Stars is all about:
Carole Lombard on TCM, Sunday, August 28
- 6:00 am - Brief Moment (1933)
- 7:15 am - No More Orchids (1932)
- 8:30 am - The Gay Bride (1934)
- 10:00 am - Fools for Scandal (1938)
- 11:30 am - Lady by Choice (1934)
- 1:00 pm - Virtue (1932)
- 2:30 pm - In Name Only (1939)
- 4:30 pm - Twentieth Century (1934)
- 6:15 pm - To Be or Not To Be (1942)
- 8:00 pm - My Man Godfrey (1936)
- 10:00 pm - Hands Across the Table (1935)
- 11:30 pm - Nothing Sacred (1937)
- 1:00 am - Mr. & Mrs. Smith (1941)
- 3:00 am - Vigil in the Night (1940)
- 4:45 am - The Racketeer (1929)
*All times EST; Schedule for TCM in the U.S.
From one of the less common Gallaher sets of tobacco cards here's today's star, Carole Lombard, on a 1935 Gallaher Signed Portraits of Famous Stars tobacco card:

One of the more popular movie collectibles out there, Linda Darnell is shown on a 1946 Dixie Premium Photo in promotion of Centennial Summer. These were issued from the early 1930's into the early 1950's and were collected by redeeming the Dixie Cup lids you'd find on top of your ice cream cup. Rare, pretty, collectible:
